ABOUT ME
Quindel D. Jones is a Black - American mathematician and PhD student in the Systems Modeling and Analysis program at Virginia Commonwealth University, expecting to graduate in May 2023. Ms. Jones was awarded the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Doctoral Scholar fellowship and has maintained her status as a Doctoral fellow. She earned her B. S. in Mathematics from Jackson State University (JSU) in May 2019. She is one of the co-authors on two publications produced from her time at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Research Experience for Undergraduates, working under Dr. Darren Narayan. While attending JSU, Quindel devoted herself to using mathematics to connect to youth through volunteering in the community. She was able to make those connections by aiding in ACT workshops, GED prep courses, and outreach programs such as JSU Girls Engaging in the Mathematical Sciences (GEMS) and more. While in graduate school, Jones has continued to champion community connections through her roles as VP and then President of the VCU Chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and as Event Coordinator for VCU Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA). Through these organizations, Jones aims to fulfill her professional mission: to inspire and encourage interest in the mathematical sciences through academics, research opportunities, and community outreach for women, in particular women of color.
